Code of Conduct

TREFFPACK is a brand of C. E. Gätcke's Glas Gesellschaft and F. Dau & Sohn. Both companies were established in the 1870s in Hamburg and are family-run ever since the foundation, currently in the sixth generation. Our products are primary packagings: containers made of glass, plastic or metal, closures, applicators and dispensing products. We offer complete and comprehensive support from one single source to our business partners. The scope of our services comprises consulting, product and technical design, new product development, worldwide procurement and supply of customised or standard packaging, warehousing, and logistical services. We are a one-stop shop for complete packaging solutions spanning various materials and industries.

This code of conduct is applicable to our complete supply chains including all suppliers, their sub-suppliers, our business partners, and stakeholders. We understand the diversity of our modern world and accept the existence of varying commercial practices in terms of legislation, cultural habits, and economic development. We believe that the relations with our business partners must be based on a set of commonly accepted rules and values.

People

a. Ethics
We shall adhere to local and international laws and standards and follow the UN’s “Global Compact” principles. We respect and observe human rights.

Business integrity and fair competition:
All commercial transaction shall be performed with integrity and transparency in mind and shall be duly recorded in the business registers of the company. We shall not pay or accept bribes or participate in other illegal inducements in business or government relationships. We shall conduct our business in compliance with all applicable anti-trust laws. Corruption, extortion, and embezzlement must not exist in the business operations.

Conflict of interest:
We will identify any potential or real conflict of interest at any level of the hierarchy and take the necessary measures when one is identified.

Identification of concerns:
Employees shall be encouraged to report concerns or illegal activities in the workplace without threat of reprisal, intimidation, or harassment.

We shall safeguard and make only proper use of confidential information to ensure that our company’s, our employees, and final customer’s privacy rights are protected. We adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Intellectual property:
We shall safeguard and respect intellectual property rights, whether our own or a third party’s, to ensure that the intellectual property rights are protected.

b. Labour
We shall be committed to uphold the human rights of workers and employees and to treat them with dignity and respect. We adhere to the “Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work” and relevant international standards and conventions, such as e.g. ISO 45001 or similar with respective local laws as a starting point.

Freely chosen employment:
We shall not use forced, bonded, indentured, or involuntary prison labour. All forms of forced and compulsory labour shall be eliminated.

Young workers:
The employment of young workers shall only occur in non-hazardous work and when young workers are above a country's legal age for employment or the age established for completing compulsory education. Child labour and exploitation of children are not tolerated.

Non-discrimination and fair treatment:
Workers and employees shall be treated with respect and dignity. Discrimination in terms of gender, age, identity, marital status or family responsibilities, sexual orientation, handicap, looks, nationality, religion, geographical, social or ethnic origin or the adherence to a labour union must not be tolerated. Every workplace must be free of harassment and discrimination as well as harsh and inhumane treatment.

Wages, benefits and working hours:
Employees and workers must be paid according to applicable laws. The details and the calculation of wages must be communicated every month in a clear and understandable way to workers and employees. The collectively agreed working conditions must be respected.

Freedom of association and collective bargaining:
We shall respect the rights of employees and workers as set forth in local laws. Employees and workers shall be able to communicate openly with management regarding working conditions without threat of reprisal, intimidation, or harassment.

c. Health and safety
We shall provide a safe and healthy working environment, including any company-provided living quarters. This includes access to cold and hot drinkable water, clean toilets and facilities allowing the storage and consumption of food during break times. Living quarters shall provide hot water for personal care (shower or bath), sleeping and living space of adequate size; all clean, safe and in good state with sufficient heating and ventilation.

Process safety:
We shall have programs in place to evaluate and when possible prevent or mitigate risks like catastrophic releases of chemicals through administrative controls, preventive maintenance, clear working procedures and effective security trainings.

Hazard information:
Safety information regarding hazardous materials shall be available to educate, train and protect workers from hazards.

Worker protection:
If the above measures cannot guarantee the full security of our employees, we shall provide them with sufficient and adequate individual protection equipment in good state of functioning to prevent overexposure to chemical, biological, and physical hazards. Employees shall be implicated in the process of evaluating the potential security risks.

Emergency preparedness and response:
We shall identify and assess emergency situations and minimize their impact by implementing emergency plans and response procedures.

An evaluation system:
must exist for accidents during work time to enable the signalling, detection and management of work-related accidents or illnesses. The system must allow a classification of the occurrences and include an investigation aiming at setting up corrective actions to eliminate the root cause(s) of the accident.

Management Responsibilities

a. Management systems and compliance
We shall use management systems to facilitate circular economy, continuous improvement, and compliance in line with the expectations of our Code of Conduct. We encourage to integrate our Code of Conduct into an existing management system or to introduce an appropriate management system, if this doesn’t exist yet.

We expect to maintain compliance with this Code of Conduct by cooperating in a transparent way and where appropriate give access to relevant documentation and premises.

b. Corporate social responsibility
We encourage our supply chain to go beyond legal compliance, recognizing that compliance with the law is a fundamental duty of any organization and an essential part of our social responsibility. We seek to promote a common understanding of social responsibility while complementing – but not replacing – existing tools and initiatives. We should consider societal, environmental, legal, cultural, political, and organisational diversity as well as differences in economic conditions, while being consistent with international norms of behaviour.

We shall be transparent to all our stakeholders. Meaning our whole supply chain, our shareholders, our employees on all hierarchical levels, our partners and society.

Our Planet

a. Environment
We shall respect all local and international laws as well as standards relating to the right of people to have access to natural resources.
We shall operate in an environmentally responsible and efficient manner, minimizing adverse impact on the environment. We are encouraged to preserve natural resources, avoid the use of hazardous material, and engage in activities that reuse and recycle.

Environmental authorisations:
We shall comply with all applicable environmental regulations. All required environmental permits, licenses, information registrations and restrictions shall be obtained, and their operational and reporting requirements followed.

Waste and emissions:
We shall have systems in place to ensure safe handling, movement, storage, recycling, reuse or management of waste, air emissions and wastewater discharges, all in compliance with applicable regulations. Any waste, wastewater, or emissions with the potential to adversely impact human or environmental health shall be appropriately managed, controlled, minimized when possible and treated prior to release into the environment.

Spills and releases:
We shall have systems in place to prevent and mitigate accidental spills and releases into the environment.

b. Products
All products we sell shall comply with applicable laws and regulations.
In cooperation with our customers and suppliers, we support the concept of safer and more sustainable packaging for a circular economy (cradle-to-cradle).
